The 5 Best Things About Fairfield and the Cook Street Village

A Quick Overview

There are many things to love about the Fairfield and Cook Street Village (CSV) neighbourhood in Victoria BC. From its central location, to its abundance of green space and parks, here are the five best reasons to love living in Fairfield and the Cook Street Village:

1. The Proximity to Victoria's Inner Harbour

Fairfield/CSV are just a short walk or bike ride away from Victoria's Inner Harbour, making it the perfect place to enjoy all that the city has to offer. There are plenty of restaurants, cafes and shops in the area, as well as attractions like the Royal BC Museum and the Legislative Buildings. People flock to live by the Cook Street Village in particular since it has plenty of convenient amenities, as well as both Beacon Hill Park, and the Dallas road beachside, all within a few minutes walk.

2. The Quiet, Tree-lined Streets

Fairfield is known for its quiet, tree-lined streets, which makes it a great place to live if you're looking for a bit of peace and quiet. There are also plenty of green spaces in the neighbourhood, including Beacon Hill Park and Fairfield Park. Despite being minutes away from downtown whether commuting or walking, Fairfield/CSV are relatively quiet neighbourhoods giving you the perfect blend between Victoria’s city life and the peace and quiet of a suburban neighbourhood.

3. The Close-knit Community

One of the best things about living in Fairfield is the close-knit community feel. There are plenty of local events and activities to get involved in, and it's easy to get to know your neighbours. For example there are plenty of local street markets during the Spring/Summer/Fall months, a couple of these include the Moss Street Market and the James Bay Market. These are fun local markets featuring the arts and crafts of local artists, treats/snacks, local produce and sometimes live music.

4. The Beautiful Victorian Homes

Fairfield is home to some of the most beautiful Victorian Style homes in Victoria, which adds to the charm of the neighbourhood. Many of these homes are over 100 years old, have been well-preserved and are a great example of the city's history going back to the early days when these neighbourhoods were mostly farmland and Victoria was little more than a trading outpost.

5. The Convenient Location

Fairfield is conveniently located close to downtown Victoria, making it easy to get around the city. There are also plenty of public transportation options in the area, so you can easily get to where you need to go. If you live in the Cook Street Village, cafes, restaurants, groceries, a drugstore, and a liquor store, are all within a few minutes walk away. The Fairfield community has similar conveniences, particularly if you live near Ross Bay. Both of these neighbourhoods are also within a short walk to multiple beaches and parks including: Spiral Beach, Clover Point, the Breakwater boardwalk, Beacon Hill park, Ross Bay, and Gonzales Bay.

Whether you're looking for a place to settle down in Victoria, or are simply passing through Fairfield, there's no denying that this is one of the best neighbourhoods in the city. From its stunning coastal views to its easy-to-navigate streets and walkways, Fairfield has something to offer everyone who sets foot in it.
